What $150 a Year of Brand Recognition Buys
Maryland resident agent service at a flat $99 per year. Physical address, scanned legal mail, compliance alerts. Renewals stay the same price.
Straight up: this is a sales page. Maryland Registered Agent.co charges $99 a year for registered agent service and would like to be yours. The LegalZoom price belongs to LegalZoom, published on their own site, not massaged by us on the way over here.
The Name Counts for Something
LegalZoom is the company people name when they name any company in this space. Two decades of advertising built that, and a real benefit hides inside it: you are not going to wake up one morning and find the outfit holding your lawsuit notices has evaporated. If steadiness is what you are shopping for, LegalZoom genuinely sells it, and nobody here is going to sneer at that purchase.
$249 Every Year, Automatically
Agent service runs $249 a year at LegalZoom, on auto-renewal, and we found no first-year discount when we checked pricing in July 2026. Credit where it is due: that means no teaser rate quietly stepping up on you later. The price you see is the price from here on.
It also happens to be the priciest flat yearly rate on our list, for a job Maryland describes in about one sentence. Somebody keeps a street address in this state, stays reachable during business hours, and passes along whatever gets served on them. That is the entire legal specification, and it does not get performed differently at $249 than at $99.
| Item | LegalZoom | Maryland Registered Agent.co |
|---|---|---|
| Annual price | $249 | $99 |
| Renewal | Auto-renews at $249 | $99, unchanged |
| Five years | $1,245 | $495 |
Seven hundred and fifty dollars over five years. In Maryland terms that is two and a half annual reports, which is not a unit of measurement many states can offer.
What You Get Over Here Instead
Ready when you are. Ordering takes about five minutes.
Order Here$99, flat, with one item in the cart and nothing to uncheck. It covers our Maryland address printed on your public filing, same-day scanning of anything a process server delivers, an email the moment it happens, a portal you can open from anywhere, and a reminder before April 15 comes around. The one extra that exists is $15 per piece if you want ordinary business mail imaged too, and we would rather say so now than let you find it on a statement.
Cheapest in Maryland? Not us. BetterLegal advertises $90 a year, and pretending that number does not exist would be a poor way to start a relationship. Ours is a low published rate that stays exactly where it is, which is a duller claim and a true one.
Replace LegalZoom on Your SDAT Record
Here is the whole procedure, because it is genuinely short.
- Sign up with the incoming agent and write down its Maryland name and street address. This step comes first because the change form has to name somebody.
- Get the Resolution to Change Principal Office or Resident Agent. That long title is the identifier, since SDAT puts no numbers on its charter forms.
- Fill in your entity name, your SDAT identification number, and the new agent's details, then sign.
- File it with SDAT's Charter Division and pay $25. Domestic or foreign entity, the fee is identical.
- Filing online through Maryland Business Express? Expect a 3 percent service charge on card payments.
- Watch your entity record until the new agent name appears on it.
- Then, and only then, switch off the LegalZoom renewal.
That last instruction is the one people get backwards. Cancelling the old service before the state has recorded the new appointment leaves your entity without an agent of record, which is precisely the condition Maryland's rules exist to prevent. Nothing dramatic happens on day one. But the entity that stops receiving its state mail is the entity that misses the April report, and Maryland's response to a report that never arrives is forfeiture of the charter. Keep the seat occupied and none of that is on the table.
A small mercy in the fee schedule: an agent who resigns voluntarily files that resignation for free. The $25 belongs to the appointment, not the departure.
Our change of agent guide covers the same ground with the forms linked.
